David Letter

3 / 17 / 97

Dear David J. Smith,
Greetings in the name of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.  A friend of mine recently gave me your audiotapes that you did on the Holy Sabbath.  I understand that these tapes were made in 1993.  I enjoyed them very much, and would like to extend a heart-felt thank you for your presentation on proving which day of the week was the Sabbath during the time of Christ.  I totally agree with you on this premise, however in only one occurrence of a Sabbath!  Most of the so-called "Christian" world will also agree that the Sabbath was the seventh day of the week during the time of Christ.  However it is very interesting that this understanding is based on the Sabbath that occurred when Christ's body was in the tomb, and this particular Sabbath happened to be on a Saturday.  There is reason to believe that this Sabbath might not have been the weekly Sabbath.  The "Christian" world does not understand, and therefore cannot explain the real reason why they generally have accepted Sunday as their day of worship.  Believe me, it is not because the Catholic Church supposedly "changed" the day of worship.  It was not a question of "changing" anything, if we are honest with correct New Testament theology and the true facts of history.

I recently sent you information and written material, which happens to be my understanding on the subject of the Sabbath.  It is called "Letters Regarding the Sabbath Question", and I am assuming that you did receive it.  I am fully aware that you no doubt have totally disagreed with this document, (that is, if you even took the time to read it).  I had the common courtesy toward this friend of mine to carefully listen to your cassette tapes, and I will not hesitate to tell him that I liked and enjoyed them very much; and that I did in fact agree with you on the premise of which day was the Sabbath during the time of Christ's death.  Therefore I am compelled to give him my forty-page booklet "The Seventh Day", and I am therefore also compelled to send you the booklet; which explains my understanding of this very important subject.

If I recall, I did send you this booklet some time in the past year, however it has been rewritten and revised somewhat and should therefore be read again.  I truly want to know if anything in the booklet is not biblically correct, because I (as you also do, and have so stated on your tapes), want to "prove all things" and hold fast to that which is good.  I know you will find honest mistakes in my booklet, but the premise and the position that the booklet takes regarding the Sabbath might not be what you think it is.  As you know, David, the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction.  All truth-seekers (including yourself, I hope) are in this together, and we must believe exactly what the written text of scripture states; and not what we might think or assume it says or means.

Please read the booklet carefully, and I hope to receive a response from you in some way.  If I do not hear from you, I will therefore assume one of the three following reasons why you decided not to respond.  (1)...You trashed the booklet immediately, or if you did read it, you found the booklet to be abhorring and disgusting; and have therefore considered it a waste of time to even inform me of this.  (2)...You have found that the booklet has indeed presented another explanation to the Sabbath question that you were not aware of, however for some reason you cannot (or will not) inform me of this either.  (3)...You have found that the booklet indeed is generally biblically correct, however for some reason you cannot (or will not) inform me of this either.  If you do respond, let me know in a kind way where there are falsehoods that could be taken to mean that God's law is "done away", or that the intent of fourth commandment no longer applies for us now under the new covenant.

I would also like to know where in the Bible it states that the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week, as you repeatedly stated on your tapes that it was.  My Bible states that the Sabbath was the seventh day (not of the week).  There is a big difference, and this understanding will therefore upset your whole premise on Sabbath keeping, wouldn’t you say?  It seemed very strange that you did not address the law of the six "work days"; which according to God’s law were of equal importance to uphold as the Sabbath "rest".  As a matter of fact, you never addressed a number of issues and facts concerning the Sabbath.  I would like to ask you to review the "Letters regarding the Sabbath Question" document again, and if you want to, express your comments on this also.  In the past I also came across some of your other tapes on the Federal Reserve System (among other things), and have agreed with your thoughts regarding the deception and the evil that our government is deliberately involved in, and has in store for our beloved nation.  I enjoyed your tapes very much!  Keep up the good work, and may the God of Israel bless you richly.

In His Service, Mahlon Wickey
